Lake Hickory resident, RSPS designee, and Certified Six Sigma Black Belt brings second-home, land, and relocation expertise to the downtown Hickory brokerage

HICKORY, N.C. — August 25, 2026 — True North Realty, a boutique, locally owned brokerage headquartered in downtown Hickory, today announced that Michael McCracken has joined the firm as a licensed North Carolina real estate broker.

McCracken serves Hickory and the surrounding areas with a particular focus on Lake Hickory, lake and mountain properties, second homes, land, relocation, and residential real estate throughout western North Carolina. He brings approximately six years of real estate experience to the firm, along with the Resort & Second-Home Property Specialist (RSPS) designation and certification as a Six Sigma Black Belt.

He also lives on Lake Hickory with his family — a distinction that carries weight in a market where a significant share of the inventory sits on the water.

Deep roots across western North Carolina

Originally from the Asheville area, McCracken moved to Hickory around age 10 and has called western North Carolina home for most of his life. He earned his undergraduate degree in Entrepreneurship from Western Carolina University, then later returned to the mountains to complete his MBA at Appalachian State University.

Those ties span the markets he now serves, from the Catawba Valley through the High Country. It is the kind of familiarity that tends to surface in the specifics: which coves get afternoon sun, what a mountain property costs to maintain as opposed to what it costs to buy, what the drive to Boone actually looks like in February. For buyers relocating from out of state — a meaningful and growing segment of the western North Carolina market — that firsthand perspective often proves more useful than any market report.

A career built before real estate

Prior to entering real estate full-time, McCracken built his career in the transportation and logistics industry. The work demanded clear communication, disciplined organization, problem-solving under time pressure, and durable client relationships — the same fundamentals that determine whether a real estate transaction closes smoothly or unravels late.

He carried that skill set into his current practice, where he is described by clients as hands-on and detail-oriented, with a genuine investment in helping people make confident decisions about their homes, their investments, and their futures.

Credentials that show up in the work

McCracken is a licensed North Carolina Real Estate Broker (License #326590), a Resort & Second-Home Property Specialist (RSPS), and a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt.

The RSPS designation reflects advanced training focused specifically on second homes, vacation properties, and short-term rental potential — categories in which a flawed assumption about rental income, seasonal access, or maintenance obligations can prove costly. The Six Sigma Black Belt, uncommon in residential real estate, indicates formal training in process analysis and quality control.

Together, the two credentials describe a broker who pairs local market knowledge with genuine analytical rigor. In practice, that means digging into the details, understanding the numbers, identifying both the opportunities and the potential concerns, and helping clients weigh all of their options before committing to a decision.

An approach centered on candor

McCracken is known among clients for being accessible, responsive, and straightforward. He takes the position that real estate involves more than completing a transaction — that it calls for honest advice, clear communication, and putting the client's interests first, including in situations where that means telling someone a property may not be the right fit.

He describes his approach simply: do what you say you're going to do, communicate well, and treat people the right way.

Areas of focus

McCracken works with clients across western North Carolina in the following areas:

  • Lake properties — Lake Hickory and surrounding waterfront communities

  • Mountain properties — second homes and retreats across the High Country

  • Second homes and resort properties — including short-term rental evaluation

  • Land — residential, recreational, and investment parcels

  • Relocation — guidance for buyers moving to the region from out of state

  • Residential resale — buying and selling throughout Hickory and the Catawba Valley

  • Investment property — acquisition analysis, renovation, and portfolio growth

Beyond the transaction

Away from work, McCracken spends his time on the lake, working out and running, tackling home improvement projects, exploring real estate investments, and outdoors with his family. He maintains a strong personal interest in construction, renovation, land, and investment property — pursuits that feed directly back into his professional practice and into the advice he offers clients evaluating a property's condition or potential.

Whether assisting a client relocating to western North Carolina, searching for a second home, purchasing land, identifying the right lake or mountain property, or selling a home and moving into a next chapter, McCracken is focused on ensuring clients feel informed, confident, and genuinely supported at every step.
