True North in Action: Crystal Klahn Gets to Know Hickory From the Inside Out

Crystal Klahn’s acceptance into Hickory 101 reflects a practical commitment to learning how city departments, services, and local resources work for residents.

By True North Realty·October 18, 2026

At True North Realty, we believe knowing a community means more than knowing its homes for sale. It also means staying curious about the services, people, and public systems that shape everyday life. True North in Action recognizes team members who are taking meaningful steps to learn, serve, and connect.

Crystal Klahn was accepted into Hickory 101, the City of Hickory’s five-week introduction to local government operations. The October 2026 program gives participants a closer look at departments and services that residents may rely on without always seeing the work behind them.

What Hickory 101 covers

Hickory 101 is a five-session program running on Thursday afternoons from October 1 through October 29, 2026. The schedule introduces participants to areas of local government including public utilities, public works, parks, libraries, police, and the airport. An optional City Council meet-and-greet and meeting are also part of the program schedule.

These departments touch daily life in practical ways. Roads, water, public spaces, safety services, libraries, and other city resources contribute to how residents experience their community. Learning who does that work and where to find reliable information can make local conversations more useful and grounded.

Why local knowledge helps clients

People considering a move often have questions that go far beyond bedrooms, square footage, and price. They may want to know where to look for city services, how to learn about local programs, or which public department can answer a specific question. A real estate professional should not replace official sources, but knowing where those sources are can help clients take their next step with confidence.

For Crystal, Hickory 101 creates an opportunity to hear directly about city operations and the people behind them. That deeper familiarity can make it easier to point residents toward the right resource while keeping guidance accurate. It also helps distinguish firsthand learning from assumptions about how a city operates.

Local knowledge is not a finish line. Communities change, programs evolve, and good advisors keep learning. By making time for a structured introduction to Hickory’s departments, Crystal is investing in a better understanding of the place she serves.

A background rooted in helping people

Before joining True North Realty, Crystal Klahn had more than 25 years of experience as a Registered Nurse. That background is relevant because it reflects years spent in work centered on people, careful listening, and practical help.

Her decision to participate in Hickory 101 fits a consistent theme: taking time to understand people’s needs and the resources around them. Real estate and nursing are different fields, but both can require patience, clear communication, and respect for the facts. Those qualities are especially valuable when someone is navigating a move or trying to become familiar with a new community.

True North Realty values professionals who are willing to ask questions and keep learning.
