North Carolina is having a moment. Between the Blue Ridge views, the coast, the low cost of living, and the barbecue debates, it's not hard to see why.

The weather is regional
Western NC (where we work) has four real seasons, mild summers, and occasional snow. The coast is hotter and hurricane-prone. The Piedmont is somewhere in between. Pick your climate before you pick your county.
Property taxes are among the lowest in the country
But car and personal property taxes are a thing. Budget accordingly.
Schools vary — a lot — inside the same county
Don't judge a county by its average score. Ask your broker for the specific school-attendance zone on any home you like.
Driving between regions takes longer than you think
Hickory to the Outer Banks is a full day. Hickory to Asheville is 90 minutes. Hickory to Charlotte is one hour without traffic — and traffic is real now.
