Summer Has Arrived in Hickory

School is out, the lake is busy, and summer is officially underway in Hickory. June is one of the best months to enjoy everything our community has to offer—from farmers markets and local pools to outdoor concerts, baseball games, and evenings spent with family and friends.

If you're looking for ways to make the most of summer without leaving town, here are a few local favorites to add to your calendar this month.

Downtown Hickory Farmers Market

One of Hickory's most beloved traditions continues throughout June under the Sails in Union Square.

Market Hours:

  • Wednesdays: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Saturdays: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Rain or Shine

You'll find fresh local produce, flowers, baked goods, meats, honey, handmade crafts, and much more while supporting local farmers and small businesses. It's also a great excuse to spend some time downtown and catch up with friends and neighbors.

Cool Off at Local Pools & Slash pads

When those North Carolina temperatures start climbing, a day at the pool becomes a summer necessity.

Kool Park Pool

A longtime Hickory favorite, Kool Park Pool features diving boards, a water slide, picnic areas, and plenty of room for families to spend the day. The pool is open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM. Admission is currently:

  • Children 12 and under: $10
  • Adults 13-64: $18
  • Seniors 65+: $10
  • Children 2 and under: Free

Many local families make Kool Park a regular summer tradition thanks to its family-friendly atmosphere and classic summertime feel.

Enjoy Lake Hickory

Of course, no Hickory summer guide would be complete without mentioning Lake Hickory.

Whether you're boating, kayaking, paddle-boarding, fishing, or simply enjoying a sunset by the water, the lake remains one of our area's greatest assets. June offers some of the best weather of the year for getting outside and taking advantage of all the recreation opportunities right in our backyard.

Catch a Hickory Crawdads Game

Summer evenings and baseball go hand in hand. A trip to L.P. Frans Stadium to watch the Hickory Crawdads is an affordable and fun way to spend time with family or friends.

  • Hickory Social House – Known for its lively atmosphere, wood-fired pizzas, brunch, and live music, this spot features outdoor seating that's perfect for enjoying summer evenings with friends and family.
  • City Walk Brewing & Distilling – While technically a brewery and distillery, its spacious outdoor patio has become a popular gathering place downtown. It's a great stop for craft beverages, live entertainment, and food truck events throughout the summer.

Additional Local Favorites with Outdoor Dining

The local tourism board also highlights several other patio destinations that residents enjoy throughout the warmer months, including:

  • Hickory Wine Shoppe
